A Bench Built for Power Devices

Applying a power device correctly is as important as choosing the right part. To support customers more effectively, BeiLuo has opened an FAE verification bench dedicated to IXYS power MOSFETs, IGBTs, thyristor modules and fast recovery diodes. The bench lets our engineers measure gate waveforms, switching loss, turn-off overshoot and thermal behavior before a customer commits to a design, turning advice into evidence.

What We Measure

The bench is equipped with high-bandwidth oscilloscopes, differential probes, current sensors and a thermal stage. Engineers characterize gate-drive behavior for MOSFETs and IGBTs, measure turn-off overshoot at the device terminals, and quantify switching loss across frequency. For fast recovery diodes, the bench measures the recovery behavior and the effect of the DSEI and DSEP options on EMI. For thyristor modules, the bench verifies the gate trigger, the dv/dt withstand and the commutation under a controlled phase-angle load.

From Selection to Validation

When a customer asks which device suits their application, our FAE team can now validate the recommendation on the bench. We compare a MOSFET against an IGBT for a given operating point, match a fast recovery diode to the freewheeling path, and confirm the gate and snubber design for a thyristor. The result is a design path backed by measured data, which reduces the risk of late-stage surprises.

Thermal Validation

Thermal design is often where designs fail. The bench measures case temperature under load, letting us verify heatsink sizing against the device's junction-to-case thermal resistance and the customer's ambient. The isolated TO-247AD and SOT-227B packages make multi-device heatsinking practical, and the bench confirms the shared-heatsink behavior.

Supporting Customers Remotely

Not every customer can send hardware, so the bench also produces reference data that our team shares directly: recommended gate-drive values, the expected overshoot and the thermal headroom for common configurations. This shortens customer bring-up and makes remote support concrete, because the customer receives numbers and waveforms rather than general advice.

Validation Reports

For larger projects we prepare short validation reports that summarize the measurements, the recommended component values and the thermal margin. These reports help customers justify a design decision internally and give their own review process a documented basis.

Why This Matters for IXYS Designs

IXYS devices span four families with different behavior, so measured guidance is especially valuable. A MOSFET and an IGBT have different switching and thermal characteristics, a fast recovery diode trades loss against EMI, and a thyristor depends on the gate and snubber for reliable commutation. Our bench targets exactly those decisions, so a customer's first prototype is closer to a production design.

Measuring the Thyristor

A thyristor behaves unlike a transistor, so the bench plays a specific role for phase-control customers. Engineers verify the gate trigger current and timing, measure the dv/dt withstand with and without a snubber, and confirm the commutation at the intended line frequency. Because a thyristor failure is usually a surge or a dv/dt event, these measurements turn a datasheet limit into a verified design value.

Consistent Method

Every measurement follows the same method, so results are comparable across devices and families. That consistency lets us tell a customer, with evidence, how two options perform at their operating point, rather than repeating a general claim.

A Commitment to Engineering Support

BeiLuo is an authorized IXYS distributor, but we aim to be more than a source of parts. The verification bench is part of a deliberate investment in engineer-level support, because the customers who buy power devices also need help applying them. That support, combined with authorized stock and complete documentation, is what distinguishes a true distributor from a broker.

How to Use the Bench

Customers can request bench support through the contact page. Describe the application, the candidate device and the operating point, and our team will either provide reference data or, for larger projects, run a focused validation and share the results.

Looking Ahead

We plan to expand the bench's coverage to more device families and to standardize the reference data we publish, so customers can self-serve more of the common questions. The objective is consistent, measurable support that helps IXYS designs reach production faster and perform reliably in the field.
