The IXGH38N60 is a 600 V / 38 A IXYS IGBT in the isolated TO-247AD package, an ultra-low saturation voltage device built on IXYS's second-generation HD MOS process with a typical VCE(sat) of just 1.8 V at the rated current. A low saturation voltage means low conduction loss, which is exactly what a medium-frequency, high-power converter needs, so the device suits AC motor speed control, DC servo and robot drives, DC choppers, uninterruptible power supplies and switch-mode and resonant-mode power supplies. The IGBT combines a MOSFET-like voltage-driven gate with the low on-state voltage of a bipolar transistor, so it is easy to drive yet conducts efficiently at high current, and it offers a square reverse-bias safe operating area for rugged switching.
