Overview
Switch-mode power supplies, uninterruptible power supplies and active power-factor-correction front ends convert and condition large amounts of electrical power, and the quality of the power stage determines both efficiency and reliability. IXYS's portfolio fits this space well: rugged HiPerFET power MOSFETs for the PFC and primary stages, low-VCE(sat) IGBTs for high-current conversion, and fast recovery diodes for rectification and freewheeling. BeiLuo supplies the whole set with genuine traceability and FAE support.
Active Power-Factor Correction
Modern supplies draw near-sinusoidal current to meet harmonic limits, using an active PFC front end that switches at high frequency and handles the full input power. A boost converter built around an IXFN44N50 HiPerFET MOSFET and a DSEI60-06A fast recovery diode corrects the power factor with low loss. The MOSFET's fast, avalanche-rated body diode handles the switching, and the fast recovery diode has a very short recovery time, so the boost stage stays efficient and quiet at high frequency. The isolated SOT-227B package of the MOSFET mounts easily on a common heatsink, which simplifies the mechanical design of a compact front end.
Harmonics and Control
The PFC control loop shapes the input current to follow the input voltage, so the current waveform must be controlled precisely and the power stage must switch predictably. A clean switching edge and a low-inductance layout reduce the high-frequency content that would otherwise require a larger input filter. Getting the current loop and the layout right is what separates a compliant front end from a noisy one.
Switch-Mode Supplies
A switch-mode supply converts the mains to a regulated output at high frequency, and the primary switch and the secondary rectifier set its efficiency. A HiPerFET MOSFET or a low-VCE(sat) IGBT handles the primary switching depending on the power and frequency, while fast recovery diodes handle the secondary rectification. Raising the switching frequency shrinks the transformer and filter magnetics, which raises power density in a supply that must fit a rack or an adapter.
UPS Stages
A UPS rectifier and inverter operate continuously, so efficiency and thermal behavior matter at every load, not only at peak. A low-VCE(sat) IGBT such as the IXGH38N60 keeps conduction loss small in the bridge, and a soft recovery diode such as the DSEP60-06A keeps the output clean with low overshoot and EMI. Because the same devices run all the time, a conservative thermal design lowers the failure rate and extends the life of the surrounding components.
Thermal and Layout Design
Keep the DC-link capacitor close to the switches, size the gate resistor to control the edges within the EMI budget, and measure overshoot at the device terminals. The isolated TO-247AD and SOT-227B packages let several devices share a heatsink without an extra insulating layer, which improves heat transfer. Verify junction temperature at the worst-case current and ambient, and use a thin, uniform interface material with the specified mounting torque.
Documentation and Supply
Power-supply manufacturers and their customers demand complete traceability. Every IXYS device BeiLuo ships includes an import declaration, a certificate of origin and a RoHS compliance file, so procurement and audit reviews are straightforward. Mainstream devices are held in regional stock, and our FAE team supports device selection, gate drive, layout and thermal sign-off from prototype to production.
Conclusion
Power supplies reward efficiency, low noise and dependable supply. IXYS power MOSFETs, IGBTs and fast recovery diodes deliver the electrical performance these designs need, and BeiLuo adds the authorized stock, documentation and engineering support that keep projects on schedule.
